1. Drink a glass of water
If you want to start with the simplest solution of all, drinking a glass of water can be a quick fix for your bad breath. Why is this? Bacteria and germs that cause mouth odors tend to thrive in dry places where they won't be directly exposed to high levels of oxygen. Drinking water promotes increased saliva production in your mouth, which will wash away bacteria while providing a direct shot of oxygen – that's why they call it H20, after all!
2. Avoid breath mints
While they might initially cover up the source of your bad breath, breath mints can actually make the problem worse. This is because of the high levels of sugar in some breath mints, which can increase the odor when left in contact with your teeth and gums for too long. Instead, look for antiseptic mouthwash or strips to kill germs and eliminate the smell for good.
3. Brush your tongue
Before you leave your house, you might also want to brush your tongue to deal with bad breath. Bacteria and germs love to hang out on your tongue, where your toothbrush and toothpaste often don't reach. A quick brush can leave your mouth smelling fresh and clean throughout the day.
